How to Deliver a Successful Promotional Merchandise Campaign
Today, we will look at how to deliver a successful promotional merchandise campaign. As budgets get increasingly squeezed, it is essential for growing companies to build up a loyal customer base. By offering a promotional campaign that is effective and memorable, you will achieve a good investment return.
A survey conducted by the British Promotional Merchandise Association (BPMA) highlighted that 83% of senior marketers planned to either maintain or increase spending on promotional merchandise from 2012-2013 onwards. It identifies that they selected promotional merchandise as it targets customers effectively. It also ensures brand messages last longer and creates loyalty.
Moreover, promotional merchandise is increasingly seen as a more cost-effective method of promoting brands and advertising messages. This is due to its longevity and impact on customer relationships.
Here are five top tips for a successful promotional campaign, which will ensure you get the most return on your investment …
Tip 1: Try to avoid Last Minute Orders
If you fail to plan then you plan to fail. Never has this been so true! Although we can deliver items in 5 days or less, you will have less selection. More importantly still, you will pay a higher price for the express delivery. Ideally, you should be planning 2-3 months ahead of time to have more products to choose from. You will also achieve a better price point for each item. This often means you can afford to buy a larger quantity of items for your budget.
Tip 2: Planning Ahead
As you select the promotional products you are going to use for your company or organisation, it’s useful to consider how long you want them to last with your customer. You should also consider if the product is going to be useful for the customer. This is specifically relevant for larger bulk orders.
You will also need to consider if you want to put a date on the item, whether you want a company website or phone number on the item, and also whether there are particular print area dimensions that you need to adhere to. In addition, if using perishable items such as confectionery and drinks, you need to take into account the date of the event, so that the goods do not go to waste.
Tip 3: Artwork
One of the situations which cause delays in production is not having suitable artwork in order to go to print. Where companies have a designed logo, most manufacturers will require artwork to be supplied in an editable eps file to ensure a good quality print is achieved. If you have an in-house designer, ensure you speak to them early and get the artwork file and pantone colours so you can send to the manufacturer. If you do not have an artwork file, the alternative is the manufacturer will need to redraw the logo for you, which will be an additional cost.
Tip 4: Distribution
The most effective way to give your promotional gift is a face to face meeting with the client. You need to consider the weight carefully as ultimately you or your sales team will need to carry this item around. However, your campaign may mean mailing the product in the post if an in-person meeting is not feasible. Also, try to use lightweight items that will fit easily into an envelope or small jiffy bag.
Tip 5: Joining Forces
Think about whether different companies link up to pay for the promotional merchandise and both benefit from the campaign. Also, consider whether the benefits of working together will outweigh the disadvantages or not. For example, you could potentially achieve additional customers that you would not normally attract; for instance, a cereal company linking up with a milk brand, an estate agent working with a video inventory company, and the list goes on!
As you can see from this post, there are loads of ways to help maximise the effectiveness of your promotional merchandise campaign and achieve a good return on investment..
